Coat Drive
The 5th and 6th Grade Student Council organized a coat drive to benefit people who might need coats during the winter season. For this particular coat drive, we partnered with The Volunteers of America (“VOA”).
What Does VOA Do?
The Volunteers of America was founded in 1896. Volunteers of America is a nonprofit organization that serves the most vulnerable people who are in need. Some examples are homeless individuals and families, adults with intellectual disabilities, families coping with domestic violence, and people living with AIDS/HIV. (These are just some). They have fifteen operating shelters. One effort the VOA-GNYdoes each year is to get donations of new backpacks. At the beginning of this school year they gave 19,400 students brand new backpacks with all of the school equipment that they need.
The Coat Drive
We asked the Browning community to donate new or gently used coats. We received over 40 coats. The coats will be delivered to the VOA. The 5th and 6th Grade Student Council wants to thank the Browning community for helping VOA this winter season.
