Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Review
In Spring 2023, the much-anticipated Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was released for the Nintendo Switch. The game is an action, puzzle RPG that can be quite tedious at times. The game packs a fascinating plot with fun enemies to battle and puzzles to solve, though they can all be quite tricky at times.
I recommended that you buy or read some form of the walkthrough, or sometimes the game can be extremely difficult.
THIS PARAGRAPH CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE STORY. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE SPOILERS, CONSIDER SKIPPING THIS PARAGRAPH. IF YOU LOVE SPOILERS, READ ON.
In this game, the protagonist is a knight named Link, who ventures into a dark cave with Princess Zelda. The two find a corpse that comes to life and destroys our hero’s legendary sword. Following this, he separates the two of them before falling into a pit. The plot then gets more complicated, but in a nutshell our princess travels through time, then does some complicated things. Our hero saves some people in the present, then seeks out the corpse, revealed to be the demon king, Ganondorf. He recovers his sword and destroys Ganondorf with the aid of Zelda.
Unlike the last paragraph, this one does not contain story spoilers. An interesting mechanic you can use is the ultrahand feature, which allows you to move most objects around, but more importantly, allows you to stick objects together. This can allow you to create some crazy contraptions. The system can be very complicated, but mastery can be rewarding. For example, if you see a place you can’t reach, why not build a hovercraft and get there? If you struggle raiding an enemy camp, why not build a tank? Some of these creations can get really insane. However, sometimes it can be confusing and frustrating to assemble if you are new to it. With practice, though, you can get good fast. Puzzle-solving with ultrahand is a part of the game that can be a bit tricky, beginning to support the idea of using a walkthrough. We will discuss this later. Similar to ultrahand is the fuse ability, allowing you to create cool weapons. You can make a sword with the horn of a Stalnox, or a spear with a mushroom at the tip. Some combinations can be game-breaking as well. Fusing a powerful weapon is usually straightforward and is crucial to winning the game.
Another fun aspect of this game is the fact that the in-game world is massive. You control your own destiny, and most of the main quests are designed so you can do them in any order. However, all the quests except the introduction one. You can go straight to the final boss, although I wouldn’t recommend it as you will miss a lot of the fun of the game, and you will probably get whooped as it is extremely difficult. Instead, I recommend that you enjoy the massive game. The game has a ground map bigger than most other similar games, an underground map the same size, and a sky map just because two giant maps weren’t enough. I still can’t believe the game is only 16.3 GB. The game also has cool locations that look awesome, and lore tied into almost everything. The world can sometimes be hard to navigate, though. It can be difficult to know where to start sometimes, and finding cool things might require you to look it up. Because of this, I would recommend using a walkthrough or guide to play Tears of the Kingdom.
Tears of the Kingdom is an amazing, huge 16.3 GB open world RPG. Though challenging at times, a walkthrough will allow you to get past that and enjoy the best parts of the game. If you love to use creativity in video games, or just love learning how to destroy the final boss in 2 hits, then Tears of the Kingdom is the game for you. If you love the Zelda franchise, this game is absolutely packed with lore. Overall, I give this game a 4½ out of 5. Awesome game, Nintendo… You need a walkthrough.
