Interview with Ms. Draddy

Peter Shea conducted a Interview with Ms. Draddy, the Middle and Upper School Counselor.

1. Where did you work before you came to Browning 

  • Ms. Draddy worked at many different independent schools and she ran a summer camp called Pocono Springs Camp.

    2. Why did you come to Browning?

  • Ms. Draddy never worked in an all boys school environment. She came to Browning because of Browning’s mission of how they teach students. Ms. Draddy loves the joyful environment of Browning.

    3. How has coming to Browning been an adjustment for you and your personal life on a day-to-day basis? 

  • She was surprised that Browning started health and wellness in kindergarten. This is different from other schools she has worked at because this allows kids in Browning to talk to grownups about their feelings. 

    4. How has Browning changed your viewpoint of how kids cope with stress and anxiety? Is it any different than what you have experienced at your old school?

  • Never worked in a boys environment. It was very joyful and fun.

    5. How have you helped kids cope through their struggles? What is the process you take to help them?

  • Think about strategies to access mental health toolkits. Want to to think more about health and wellness.

    6. Do you think you have done a good job succoring kids when they seeked help with personal challenges and internal issues?

  • Hardest part to think about is if you don’t know anybody. It’s hard to help boys when you don’t know them.

    7. When did you start working as a school counselor? Why did you want to be a school counselor? What were your motivations for this job?

  • I used to work in finance. I helped people overcome what they couldn’t. I liked helping people and applied for this job because there was an opening and I got in!
