The Benefits of Magic the Gathering
Many students at Browning love to play Magic: The Gathering (MTG). MTG is a trading card game designed by Richard Garfield that was first released on August 5th, 1993. Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro, owns the rights. The game is unique compared to other popular TCGs, or trading card games, in that it focuses on playing the game more than trading cards. It became an inspiration for other popular TCGs such as Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh. Pokemon approached Wizards of the Coast to help them with developing their own TCG, before making many changes and creating the game that many still love and play today. Magic The Gathering is usually considered the hardest of the three games to play due to the excessive number of rules and amount of strategy required. But this does not spoil the fun of the game, unlike other complicated games.
You play almost all games of Magic: The Gathering with two or more players and decks of cards that are usually about 60 cards. In the game, you win by killing the other player(s) with creatures and powerful spells. You can choose the cards that go into your deck, but there are several rules you need to follow. This depends on the format of the game you are playing, which are multiple rule sets of playing the game. They can be as simple as having different banned cards and as complicated as completely warping the game in ways. But the core of the game always remains the same. New cards are printed regularly to keep trending strategies interesting, and there are over 25,000 cards at this point. So there are plenty of cards to choose from when designing a deck.
So what are the benefits? The most obvious is that Magic: The Gathering is a fun game. You can easily have a fun time playing Magic The Gathering with your family and friends. But it also can improve critical and strategic thinking, as the game heavily emphasizes strategy and skill. Even though it is a card game, you can choose the cards in your deck, so luck isn’t as much of an issue. This can allow skilled players to win more often, even if their opponent is getting lucky draws. Overall, Magic: The Gathering is a fun Trading Card Game that emphasizes fun matches, strategy, skill, and fun deckbuilding.
