Was the Old Field Day Better?
Recently, Browning had field day. A lot of people believe that the old field day was better, and I am here to explain why. In order to understand why, we first need to understand what is different now at field day. The new color core system emphasizes a whole - school competition between four groups, which we are all familiar with. All activities are by team, and you can earn points for your team. The team with the most total points wins. The color core system’s intention was to add a fun level of competition to field day, while also encouraging new friendships. What many people believe is that this is not actually the result. For example, last field day, there were many accusations of cheating being thrown around. In addition, some teammates were getting very angry at each other for messing up. The root of these issues is that a lot of people aren’t going to field day to have fun anymore; they are going to field day to win, no matter the cost. A lot of people feel that it is overly competitive. Now, it is possible to fix these issues. It is very hard to be 100% accurate when it comes to cheating, but better rule enforcement, even by a little bit, would be very helpful. Some people suggest that the color core teams get changed up, but I feel that that completely undermines the entire purpose of color core. If the purpose was to have temporary teams for a single field day, then what is the purpose of color core? There is another fix as well, one which I believe would work much better. We could do other competitions with color core so there isn’t as much weight on field day. There are some issues with this, though. This could cause field day to be even more competitive. But I think that that will fix most of the problems with color core, and it will do a better job at accomplishing what it is supposed to. But let’s return to the original question - was the old field day better? I think that having the whole school involved is an improvement, but the color core system severely needs to be fine tuned.
