Almost A Year In Music

   Almost A Year In Music By Julian Martinez And William Hinrichs

LP = Full length album with longer play time typically on vinyl.

EP= Single with longer length.

Mixtape Pluto is Future's latest release and his 21st mixtape of his career. Highlights of the album include Lil Demon, Ski, Aye say Gang and ocean all of these songs brought back that 2015 Future with projects like 56 Nights and DS2. Mixtape Pluto is the third project released this year. Coming off two amazing collaboration albums: We Don’t Trust You and We Still Don’t Trust You both with producer Metro Boomin. Mixtape pluto had lots of hype due to the quality of the previous projects.

Lil Tecca’s 5th studio album “PLAN A”  released on the same day as MIXTAPE PLUTO, which was a bold move from Tecca since he is much smaller than Future. But this album did not disappoint. With hits like “I Can’t Let Go” with Don Toliver, to summer anthems like “Taste” this album brought together all of Lil Teccas strengths as an artist. This album really showed us Tecca’s versatility and abilities to create great songs.

Short N’ Sweet - Sabrina Carpenter

This LP was Sabrina’s breakout album with smash hits like “Espresso”, “Please Please Please” and “Taste” which have all surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify in under 6 months.  Although this album was a commercial success, many call this album perfect for public spaces such as grocery stores due to its repetitive nature. This album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 slightly beating out Travis Scott’s “DAYS BEFORE RODEO” mixtape.

F-1 Trillion is Post Malone's first ever country album and his 6 studio releases. Overall F-1 Trillion was an amazing album with great songs such as What Don’t Belong to Me, Guy for that and I had some Help. F-1 Trillion even peaked at number 1 on the billboard top 200. Although many of the songs were great, features such as Dolly Parton on Have the Heart and Chris Stapelton on California Sober hurt the quality of both those songs. Altogether a great album especially for being Post Malone's first ever Country Album.

“VULTURES 2” - ¥$

Th

is LP is ¥$’ 2nd release this year following VULTURES 1. This album’s rollout was messy to say the least. It dropped at 3:00 A.M on a random Saturday morning. It was received poorly by the general public with people saying it sounded unfinished and lazy. They were also not too fond of the use of A.I on songs like “SKY CITY”. But in my opinion this album is very underrated. First of all, the songs that were “unfinished” were clearly an artistic choice in my opinion . Songs like “530” had mumble at the end , but if you look deep into it. Then you’d realize that it has a meaning behind it. The use of A.I in my opinion was actually genius, Ye has been in many controversies however he has produced amazing songs that have defined music as we know it today. Not even a year later, the use of A.I is being seen more and more by popular artists. Some said that the mixing on this album was poor. But I think that it is just fine, and even if it is a little sub-par, you have to take into consideration that he’s doing this with no label or team, this is 100% Ye. In Conclusion, this album was great and needs more love.

Hardstone Psycho-Don Toliver

Hardstone Psycho is Don Toliver's fourth studio release and probably his best album yet. Hardstone Psycho had some amazing songs including “Brother Stone” ft Kodak Black, “Deep in the Water”, “Tore up” and many more solid songs. Despite being held to high standards because of great releases such as “Life of A Don” and “Heaven” and “Hell” Don toliver still came through with yet another great album.

“BRAT”-Charli Xcx

“BRAT” is Charli’s 6th studio album and what many would call her breakout one. Although, she had already had some hype around her name, this LP skyrocketed her into the mainstream. This critically acclaimed album received 10/10’s from known harsh reviewers like Anthony Fantano. Overall I find this album to be a bit overrated, but still great with hits like Apple and 365.
