Black Rock Forest

On Wednesday Nov 2, 2021 The sixth graders attended Black Rock Forest. “It was a very long ride, it was over two hours each way on the bus to black rock,” says an anonymous sixth-grader, “but it was worth the wait”. Noah Lehr, a sixth-grader said that “ I think that it was very fun to be out in nature. Half of us played some games in the morning, and then after lunch, we went on a nature hike, which was very pretty and we built shelters in the forest using already broken sticks”. The other half went on the hike first and played second. This trip was usually an overnight one for the 6 grade, a school day for 5’th grade, and 2 nights for 7’th so the students would experience more activities, but due to our school not being fully vaccinated yet, we couldn’t sleepover. A sixth-grader who is new this year, Max Kothari says that “I enjoyed the trip, especially the football. I would tell fifth-graders that this trip is fun and a good way to exercise, socialize and have some fun during COVID.” Joan Gilman, a science teacher who attended the trip, says that “ I have attended the trip in March 2019, right before we had to close due to COVID. My favorite part of the trip was having the students build the shelters using the natural materials in the forest. Since this wasn’t a science trip, many of the activities were new to me, as this was more of a team-building trip. I would tell a fifth-grader who would attend Black Rock Forest next year that this trip is all about team building and collaborative activities.” So, middle school of Browning, what do YOU think about Black Rock Forest? And what would YOU say to younger students attending Black Rock Forest next year? Thank you for reading this article, and I hope that you enjoyed it.
