Movie Review: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
It’s here, the 3rd installment to the Ant-Man franchise and the 31st movie in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). Critics and fans have been bombarding this movie and have been calling it bad. But as a huge MCU fan myself, I shall question the fans and the critics' input. So let’s get started. I’ll try to avoid spoilers but I can’t guarantee it.
Positives
The movie features a ton of character development. The CGI (computer generated images) are absolutely amazing. It was amazing seeing it in IMAX. The fight scenes are absolutely amazing, especially the final assault against Kang. Did I talk about Kang The Conqueror yet, no, ok. Kang, IS COLD. He is probably the best villain that Marvel has ever introduced. He was introduced in the final episode of Loki but the movie is where he gets to shine. His backstory is kind of tragic, I guess. His abilities are scary and awesome to an extent. He can wipe out timelines and bend reality to his will. The best part is that there are multiple Kangs in multiple universes. The post credit scene confirmed it. Also, don’t worry, this is not the end of Ant-Man’s story. In fact, it leads to something much bigger (Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is a movie confirmed by Marvel), like all good MCU movies do. Although critics are bombarding it, my opinion is that they are wrong.
Negatives
Even though I really liked this movie, there obviously is room for improvement. There is a lack of fight scenes in the movie. The CGI is not of the quality of the last movies. The movie was moving pretty fast in my opinion and didn’t flesh out the story in the beginning. They also diverted from the original Ant-Man formula. Normally it gives a heist feel with a dash of sci-fi but now it’s basically the protagonists being transported to a new world. That’s my opinion however. The story also had some flaws such as how Kang got banished while being the head of the TSA. Otherwise there is a lot to like.
Final Opinion
The movie has flaws but definitely didn’t disappoint. Although they could have improved the CGI and the story, it was still pretty good. My final rating is 7/10.
