Round-Up: MS Chorus Festival

On Wednesday, April 26, at 5 pm, the chorus festival started. We had just finished a group warm-up led by Mr. Boecker. After the organizer came out and said a few words, Dalton came on the stage.

Standing in a classical chorus three rows, looking out to the audience. They sang “So Danco Samba” by Juan Ignacio Norona. They then moved on to “Ave Maria” by Antonio Carlos Jobim. Finally, they moved on to their last song “J’entends Le Moulin” a French Canadian folk song. Next was Browning.

We went up and spread up in a straight line in two rows. Mr. Boeker looked at the pianist and looked at us, and we started. First, we sang “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” by George D. Peretti and Luigi Creatore. This was followed by the famous pop song “Don't Stop Believin’” by Jonathan Cain, Neal Schon, and Stever Perry. Lastly, we did “Ave Verum Corpus” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The applause roared through Christ Church as we bowed, and walked off. “I was very impressed by your singing, and also by your manner, and by your dignity. You truly represented Browning in the best light.” (Ben Beocker - Director)

The Nightingale Middle School Chorus walked on after us and sang “I never saw a Moor” by Neil Ginsberg and “El Vito” by Emily Crocker. This performance was interesting because a kid walked onto their stage and started singing with them, but he was taken by a man in a suit and screamed while being taken off “Can’t you hear me??” The nightingale girls finished their performance and that was followed by Collegiate.

With “Vox” by Greg Gilpin and I describe it as a “beautiful assortment of sound.” (Peter Parizhsky - Browning Chorus Singer) This song was followed by “Slow Down” by Ian Assersohn and “California Dreamin’” by John Phillips, and Michelle Phillips.

For the last chorus, Brearley came on with “Singing like a Bird” by Bob Chilcott, “Lakeside Lullaby” by Jacob Narverud, and “Lullaby of Birdland” by George David Weiss, and George Shearing. All in all, the chorus festival was a great experience!
