Winter Sports
Welcome to the winter sports piece of the monthly panther in this issue we are going to be covering roster schedules and more about this upcoming season. Let's dive in!
Varsity Squash
For the varsity squash team we only have three middle schoolers in Alexander. V(8) Peter Shea(8) and Nicholas Armstrong-Shakib(8). The trial period was hard with many boys from 7 to 12th trying out but these three were able to rise above and represent the middle school there first competition is on the fourth against the Portledge school at the harmony club so if on December fourth you have nothing to do go cheer them on.
7/8 Red Basket
Next up for 7/8 we have the red team. This red team is some of the best of the best ballers Browning Middle school has to offer. We of course have some returning 7 graders now 8th grade here to lead the team Elloit Smith and Matteo Volterra. But we also have some remarkable 7th graders who were able to stand out and play alongside the 8th graders, Eli. P, William.B, Graham.G, and Ryan.S. Their first game is Thursday the 30th against Equinox, will they rise and win and read the next issue to find out.
7/8 Black Basketball
Finally is the Browning Black team. This is the Browning B team but it doesn't mean the A team is better. This team is filled with many new faces but we also have some returning ones. We have Peter Parizhsky and Jack Preston returning on the B team. But although the team is mostly made up of 7th graders Jack and Peter. P, aren't the only 8th graders. We have Ninis T, Jeremy M, Charlie F, Max K, and Ollie V-M join the team as 8th graders. The black team has been working hard. Some of you might have heard them running up and down the stairs as they get ready for a good practice. Next time you hear them running try cheering them on. The black team’s first game is on Tuesday against Grace Church. As for the starting line-up, check again next issue to see.
6th grade
As a member of the 6th grade basketball team, I will explain a typical day on the court. In our first practice,we (red and black team)started out by saying our oath that we would not insult each other. Then, we circle up around the middle circle in the gym. Next, we had to do layup lines. We switched the ball to the other side and kept it like that for about 5 minutes. Next, we did middle jumper shots and switched the sides of the ball again. After this, we made backdoor cuts; you need to rapidly and abruptly run to the basket before the defender can catch up to you. After this, we did a scrimmage so that the coaches could see our skills. Unfortunately, all the bus kids had to leave but we continued the scrimmage for a little while longer. We eventually had to go. There you have it - a whole recap of our first practice in 6th grade basketball!
